Risk Pilot Strategy: The Signals, Traded at 1:4
How Crodl's Risk Pilot Strategy takes the Risk Pilot signals — UT-Bot ATR-trail crosses, trend-SMA gated, strictly alternating — and trades them mechanically: entry at the signal close, stop beyond the producing candle, target at 4R, scoreboard on the chart.
Risk Pilot answers when: a UT-Bot-style ATR trailing stop flips, the trend SMA agrees, and strict alternation guarantees one signal per side — buy, sell, buy, never buy-buy. Risk Pilot Strategy answers what would have happened if you actually traded every one of them, and draws it: entry, stop, target, outcome, and the running score.
The rules (all of them)
- The signal: Risk Pilot's — the close crossing the ATR trail (default 6.3 × ATR(21)), gated by the trend SMA (default 200), with the strict one-per-side alternation latch. The engine here is a bar-for-bar port of the Rune preset, verified against it in tests, so the entries sit exactly on the triangles Risk Pilot draws.
- The entry: the signal candle's close. No waiting, no discretion — you trade the first one.
- The stop: beyond the producing candle — its low for buys, its high for sells, plus a small ATR buffer (default 0.05×).
- The target:
Reward : risk× the stop distance — default 1:4. - One trade at a time: a signal that fires while a trade is open is skipped. The next trade may only start after the previous one resolved.
- Resolution: bar-by-bar, stop checked first — a bar that touches both counts as a loss. Conservative by construction.
Every trade draws the position-tool picture: green reward zone (entry → target), red risk zone (entry → stop), the entry line across both, from the entry bar to the bar that resolved it. A still-open trade extends to the last candle with dashed borders.
The scoreboard
The compact pill top-right — 2W / 6L · 25% WR — counts every resolved trade in the loaded history, on by default. The arithmetic to hold it against: at 1:4 you break even (before fees) above 20% win rate; at 1:2 you need 33%; at 1:1 you need 50%.
And here is the honest part, from running the defaults on live BTC/ETH/SOL: the wide 6.3×ATR trail enters late in a move by design — it's a trend-following filter, not a sniper — so demanding 4R after a late entry is a tall order, and several tapes score 0-for-N at 1:4 while the same signals clear 40%+ at 1:1. That's not the tool failing; that's the tool telling you the R multiple and the signal style have to match. Drop the ratio, tighten the trail, or lengthen the timeframe — and let the pill referee.
Settings
- Signal engine — ATR period and multiplier of the trail, trend SMA length (the same three knobs as the Risk Pilot preset; keep them matched if you run both).
- Risk — reward:risk (default 4), the ATR stop buffer beyond the producing candle, trades retained, the Half-way pullback entry toggle (off by default: instead of entering at the signal close, a limit rests at the signal candle's midpoint and fills only if price pulls back into it — the whole bracket shifts to the better entry with identical gap sizes and NEVER chases: a long's half entry can never sit above the standard entry (nor a short's below). If the midpoint isn't touched within the window — default 3 bars — the limit eases to the signal close and keeps waiting; a limit price never comes back to stays visibly pending instead of paying up. Which arrows get traded is decided exactly as in standard mode, so the half-entry trade list always matches the standard one bar-for-bar — it re-prices your trades, it never moves them), and two daily discipline gates (both off by default): Stop for the day once up — no new entries for the rest of a UTC day whose realized R is positive — and Stop after N losses in a day — the classic daily loss limit. Both skip entries only; they never touch an open trade, and the next UTC day always starts fresh.
- Style — zones, entry arrows, the W/L table, and the three colours.
Honest limitations
This is a visualizer with strategy rules, not a backtester: fills at the signal close with no fees, slippage or funding; outcomes from bar extremes — real executions would be slightly worse. The score covers the loaded candles only (load more history for a bigger sample). Signals never repaint — the trail, gate and latch all evaluate on closed bars — but the newest trade legitimately develops until its stop or target prints. And one-trade-at-a-time means a signal that fires mid-trade is skipped by design: with strict alternation that can also skip the opposite signal, which is exactly what the original strategy's latches would do.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it match the Risk Pilot triangles?
Exactly — same engine, tested value-for-value against the preset. Run both with the same ATR/SMA settings and every traded arrow is one of its triangles, now wearing its trade geometry.
Does it repaint?
No. Signals evaluate on closed candles, entries/stops/targets freeze at the signal bar, and resolved outcomes never change. Only the currently-open trade develops.
Why so few trades?
The defaults are deliberately conservative — a 6.3×ATR trail plus a 200-SMA gate throws most crosses away, which was Risk Pilot's whole design. Expect a handful of trades per thousand bars; shorten the SMA or tighten the trail for more.
Is 1:4 realistic here?
Sometimes — and the pill will tell you when it isn't. Late trend-following entries often pair better with 1:1–1:2; fast setups tolerate higher R. Flip the ratio and compare scoreboards on your market before believing either.
